Radio Frequency (RF) Data Engineer (Multiple locations AMERICAS)

Overview

WDNA Americas is at the forefront of Environmental Intelligence, transforming telecom infrastructure into powerful, hyperlocal weather observation systems. Our pioneering technology leverages existing cellular networks to monitor rainfall, detect severe weather, and generate real-time environmental insights at unprecedented resolution.

As we expand across the Americas, we’re seeking a Radio Frequency (RF) Data Engineer to join our Environmental Intelligence team, where cutting-edge data engineering meets climate resilience. Our mission is to harness RF signal attenuation mapping from wireless, microwave, and satellite networks to deliver hyper-local weather nowcasting. This role bridges raw telecom data with actionable meteorological insights, empowering communities and businesses to prepare for extreme weather events.

Role Description

As an RF Data Engineer, you will serve as the critical bridge between raw telecommunications infrastructure and our advanced meteorological models. You will not just move data; you will design, build, and scale the sophisticated pipelines that ingest high-volume, real-time RF signal data, transforming "noise" into actionable intelligence for our data science and meteorology teams.

You’ll collaborate with meteorologists, ML engineers, and domain experts to ensure data integrity, optimize cloud infrastructure, and enable real-time decision-making. This is a mission-driven role where your work directly impacts public safety and operational resilience.

What You’ll bring

  •  A  Hybrid Mindset: The ability to speak both "Software Engineer" and "RF Engineer." You are comfortable discussing Python libraries in one breath and signal-to-noise ratios (SNR) or microwave link behavior in the next.

  •  Data  Rigor: A passion for data cleanliness and integrity,  understanding that a weather model is only as good as the data  feeding it.

  •  Problem-Solving Spirit: A drive to tackle open-ended problems where  the "truth" is often hidden in noisy, real-world datasets.

  • A collaborative spirit and eagerness to work in a fast-paced, innovative environment

  • Comfort with ambiguity and new technologies — you thrive when building something new

  • Ability to participate in technical discussions and help drive architectural and solution design decisions.

  • A consultancy mindset — always focused on finding practical and scalable solutions for clients.

What You'll Do

  • Pipeline Development: Design and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines using Python, SQL, and cloud tools (AWS/GCP/Azure) to process RF and telecom data.

  • Data Integration: Normalize and enrich unstructured time-series data from diverse telecom partners, ensuring consistency and accuracy.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Translate meteorological requirements into technical solutions, working closely with scientists and engineers.

  • Cloud & Monitoring:  Optimize storage (S3, PostgreSQL), compute (Spark, Kubernetes), and  real-time analytics with tools like Airflow, ELK Stack, and Prometheus.

  • Quality Assurance:  Implement automated monitoring, anomaly detection, and alerts to maintain data reliability.

Qualifications

  •    Academic Background: A degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or Atmospheric Science.

  •    Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in Data Engineering, Data  Architecture, or a related Software Engineering role.

  •    Technical Core: High proficiency in Python and SQL.

  •    API & Backend Development: Experience with FastAPI or Flask for building scalable RESTful APIs.

  •    AI/ML Integration: Familiarity with OpenAI, Hugging Face, or similar AI APIs and ecosystems.

  •    MCP / FastMCP: Experience working with MCP/FastMCP frameworks or similar orchestration patterns.

  •    Big Data Stack: Hands-on experience with distributed processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Kafka) and orchestration tools (e.g., Airflow, Dagster).

  •    Async Programming: Understanding of asynchronous programming patterns for high-performance systems.

  •    Containerization: Familiarity with Docker and container-based deployments.

  •    Security Best Practices: Knowledge of API authentication and authorization standards such as OAuth2 and JWT.

  •    Cloud Services: Hands-on experience with cloud deployment, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure management (ideally on Azure, AWS, or GCP).

  •    Domain  Knowledge: A solid foundational understanding of RF engineering, wireless networks, or digital signal processing.

  •    Data Handling: Experience working with large datasets, including data cleaning, transformation, and manipulation.

Bonus Points If You Have:

  •    Cloud Expertise: Deep experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure (including cost optimization and serverless architecture).

  •    Geospatial Skills: Experience with geospatial/GIS data processing using tools like PostGIS, GeoPandas, or Rasterio.

  •    Industry Context: Previous work with IoT, satellite data, sensor networks, or environmental/weather data.
