On Thursday, June 4, Wireless DNA CEO, José Mañas, was interviewed on Canal 4 Ràdio program, "4Directe", hosted by Yolanda Hernandez, to talk about the tracking apps debated because of the COVID-19 health crisis. This type of tool has been proposed as a possible notification system to monitor population who may have been in contact with others infected by coronavirus, with the privacy issues that this could entail.

Mañas made an assessment of the mobile "infection-tracking app" that Spain will implement as a pilot test in the Canary Islands. "This type of tracking tool was tested in Switzerland, and now wants to start being used in Spanish regions, such as the Canary Islands," said Wireless DNA CEO. This application will use decentralized Bluetooth technology, following the protocols agreed with the European Union and the proposal launched by the Secretary of State for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence. The app aims to monitor the transit of people in order to facilitate de-escalation by controlling tourist movements.

"I wouldn't be against using technologies endorsed by the public administrations, as they are supposed to provide certain guarantees of data protection. But I doubt their effectiveness in terms of not having the critical mass to make these tools effective". A kind of app that, in his opinion, "comes late" and, as José Mañas has warned, can be dangerous if it is hacked or used for other less legal matters. "We don't have digital sovereignty at the European level and that can cause us many problems. We are late again in this aspect compared to other countries," said our CEO.

About teleworking (to which a significant part of the population has been forced during this health crisis), José Mañas acknowledged that "reconciling family life with work has been complicated", but society has had to adapt to this new normality. However, he criticised the fact that the administrations haven't been able to adapt in the same way.

The CEO of Wireless DNA said that "the digital divide has widened". He criticized that "the public sector is ten years behind the private sector". Mañas stressed that there are laws in this regard, but "it is not a matter of legislating, but of doing things" as proposed by the Balearic Association of Software, Internet and New Technology Companies, regional entity where he is vice president. In addition, he regretted that the efforts done from the administrations have been "by obligation, without a solid digital strategy".
